Summer trials.jpg

We have successfully piloted this project with a family, a community centre, two schools and three businesses. A total of 209 participants (68 households) have taken part in our trials programme so far, and here’s a snapshot of the results…

stats.jpg

“This project has inspired the children in our school to write to local MPs, supermarkets and manufacturers about their plastic footprint.”

“The process of collecting your own plastic is a really engaging tool in order to create individual behaviour change and I have now made a number of steps to further cut my plastic.”

“Daniel gave us a lot of ideas about how we can keep up the momentum to raise people’s awareness of the importance of using less single-use plastic”

“It inspired my whole household to make changes, particularly in relation to kitchen items!”

By making quick and easy changes on just a few items, our participants could avoid throwing THOUSANDS of pieces of plastic waste every year. Look how many common household items the groups threw away between them in just a week…

IMPACT.jpg
PRESS.jpg

The significant impact that The Everyday Plastic Survey could have was illustrated after one trial session at which a participant brought in 32 individual pieces of Hello Fresh packaging amongst her week’s collection. I tweeted a picture to highlight the stark consequences this could have given their wide customer base.

This simple tweet generated huge traction online and offline, including:

  • Hundreds of comments from former and prospective customers

  • Press coverage in MailOnline and Daily Mirror

  • Hello Fresh statement as a direct response

  • Over 7,000 engagements on social media, with the original tweet seen over 650,000 times

Even during our small-scale trial phase, we’ve demonstrated that this project can increase awareness and encourage action. Given these results, we believe that this project can mobilise a new generation of campaigners on a national level.
