Back to school, with less plastic

Shout-out to all the parents of school-aged kids who are prepping to get their children back to school.

We thought it would be helpful to put together a little edit of some ways to continue your family’s less plastic journey when the kiddos go back at school.

Here are our top 6 tips:

  • Plan ahead: You can reduce the amount of food waste you generate as a family by planning your meals for the week ahead.

  • Packed lunch: Steer clear of cling film and zip-lock bags: you can pack sandwiches in a tea-towel or an old takeaway tub. Don’t forget to buy loose fruit for lunches.

  • Reusable water bottle: There’s no need for single-use water bottles any more. Send your kids to school with a reusable water bottle to keep them hydrated throughout the day.

  • Ditch those biros: For younger ones, pencils are perfect

  • Forget the plastic wallets: Are they truly necessary? You could go for a cardboard ring-binder instead.

  • Don't buy uniforms new: Visit your nearby charity shop for local school second-hand uniforms, or check out Vinted for general school clothes.
